Here’s how to keep them looking their best.
Start with a Clean Vase
Before placing your flowers in water, make sure your vase is thoroughly clean. Bacteria is one of the main reasons flowers don’t last as long as they should. Warm, soapy water and a good rinse is all you need.
Trim the Stems
Using sharp scissors or secateurs, trim 1–2cm off each stem at a 45-degree angle before placing them in water. This helps the stems absorb water more efficiently. Re-trimming every few days can make a noticeable difference.
Fresh Water is Key
Fill your vase with cool, fresh water and change it daily (or at least every second day). If your bouquet comes with flower food, add it to the water as directed, it’s specially formulated to nourish your blooms and reduce bacteria.
Remove Lower Leaves
Any leaves sitting below the waterline should be removed. Leaves in water break down quickly and encourage bacterial growth, which shortens the life of your flowers.
Choose the Right Spot
Flowers prefer a cool, stable environment. Keep them away from:
